Investigators from the Westport Police Department received a report shortly after 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25 last year, when there was a complaint of a hit-and-run driver who struck and “heavily damaged” two parked cars before speeding away in the area.

According to police, during the on-scene investigation, officers were able to obtain a registration plate for the suspected vehicle, and a computer check showed that it was listed to Norwalk resident Anne Arnold.

Norwalk police investigators were contacted, but were unable to find Arnold, or her vehicle, at her home on the night of the alleged hit-and-run.

Officers from the Westport Police Department took their turn at attempting to locate Arnold on Saturday, Oct. 26, at which point they located the vehicle in question, which sustained damage “consistent with the previous day’s motor vehicle accident.”

Police said that investigators made contact with Arnold, who admitted to being the driver and to knowingly leaving the scene of the crash the day before. An arrest warrant was prepared and granted for Anne Arnold on a charge of evading responsibility, investigators noted.

According to police, at approximately 2 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, an officer on patrol spotted a disabled motor vehicle on Post Road West. When speaking with the driver of the disabled vehicle, the officer noted that it was Anne Arnold and she was taken into custody on the warrant.

Arnold was arrested and charged with evading responsibility at the Westport Police Department. Following her processing, Arnold was released and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Friday, Aug. 2.
